Dr. Henry Leis joined Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists in 2008 and specializes in sports medicine as well as complex issues of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, he continued his education with medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. Following medical school, Dr. Leis completed his orthopedic residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX and subsequently, a one-year fellowship in complex disorders of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand at the San Antonio Hand Center in San Antonio, TX.
Board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Leis’s areas of expertise include; arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repair, total shoulder replacement, reverse total shoulder replacement, Tommy John reconstruction of the elbow, and complex wrist and hand fractures and reconstruction. In addition, Dr. Leis performs several minimally invasive procedures, including; endoscopic carpal tunnel release, endoscopic cubital tunnel release, and all-inside arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and arthroscopic surgery of the elbow, wrist and thumb. His additional areas of interest include total elbow and wrist replacement and small joint replacements of the thumb and hand.
Additionally, Dr. Leis serves as a scientific clinical advisor for several national orthopedic companies and is actively involved in research involving small joint arthroplasty of the wrist, thumb and hand. He is always looking for new and exciting technology that provides patients with the most cutting edge surgical techniques to help them achieve the best functional outcomes.
